Please register or login to the eTRAKiT site to apply for or renew your business license based on the following:
Existing User- This site is utilized by our Building Department for permit application. If you have applied for permits in the past, you already have an eTRAKiT login. Please use your existing login information and login as "CONTRACTOR AND OTHER PERMIT PROFESSIONAL". Please search the username drop down menu if you are unsure of your login credentials. Once logged in, your current business license will be linked to your account and available for renewal. Click on the blue circular renew arrow. If you do not see your license linked, please email the Finance Department at businesslicense@hillsborough.net.
New eTRAKiT User- If you do not already have an eTRAKit login, please create your login using the "PUBLIC" login option, and follow the steps in the instructions document (linked below) to apply for or renew your business license. If you are renewing your license, you will need to use the "link license" option and search for your license number to link it to your login before processing your renewal. Click on the blue circular renew arrow. You can look up your license number in the list of 2023 licenses document linked below.
Should you need to complete a hard copy license application, please print out the appropriate category application below and mail or bring in with payment to: Town of Hillsborough Finance Department, Attn: Business License, 1600 Floribunda Ave, Hillsborough, CA 94010.
The Town’s business license year begins July 1st and ends June 30th of the following year. Renewal notices are mailed and/or emailed at the end of the fiscal year, to businesses who hold a current Town of Hillsborough business license. Renewal is not required if no business will be conducted with the Town or its residents.

The purpose of this article is to provide for the establishment and levying of license taxes for the carrying on of certain businesses, trades, professions, callings and occupations in the city. Effective January 1, 2018, the $1.00 SB1186 DISABILITY ACCESS FEE will increase to $4.00
Effective January 1, 2019, cities and counties in California are required to provide informational notices related to disability access requirements. Under AB3002, cities and counties must provide these notices to individuals applying for business licenses, and building permits, for commercial property or a "place of public accommodation" that the general public is invited to utilize. The bill is intended to educate and encourage businesses to proactively comply with construction related accessibility requirements before making property improvements. Effective January 1, 2020, SB205 requires an SIC code be provided, and proof on enrollment in an NPDES permit if such a permit is required.
